The Cave is a Steiner based Childcare service in Wicklow Town, which focuses on the holistic care & education
of children aged from 3 years to 12 years of age. Emphasis is on traditional and multicultural arts, crafts
and songs which correspond with the rhythm & changing seasons of nature. We are open from
September – July, 9am – 6pm, and provide the following services:
|
Kindergarten: A gentle and holistic approach to Education for children 3 – 5 years, based on Steiner philosophy.
Emphasis is on imitation, creative play, sensory integration (doing, feeling, thinking), art, singing, stories
and the natural environment. Current research indicates that 'active' rather than passive play has an enormous
impact on later learning ability.
Inclusion Policy: Our holistic teaching style easily accommodates children with special needs or learning
difficulties and children from all cultures and backgrounds. We use lots of songs, stories, nursery rhymes
and clapping games to encourage language development
Afterschool, 4-12 years: We provide collection from all local schools, a wholesome snack, including fruit,
veg and grains which the children help to prepare and cook; homework supervision and a range of traditional
and multi-cultural arts, activities, games and stories.
Holiday Daycare between September and June: We provide an exciting range of crafts and activities, i.e.
pottery, basket making, puppet shows, painting, mask making, outings. Holiday daycare is available on an hourly
basis and 'drop-in' by arrangement.
Summer Camps 4-8 years: During the month of July we run a Summer Camp based on traditional fairytales, myths
and legends from around the world. Each week culminates in a play or puppet show for parents which displays all
the work the children have done.
Outdoor Play Area: We believe that outdoor play is vital to children's comfort and healthy development.
Our Eco Garden is a living environment which awakens the senses and encourages lively and imaginative play.
Our garden provides a sand pit and working water pump, and children are free to run, jump, climb, dig, plant
and grow
